Sanitation Department
Residential Trash Collection
The Sanitation Department collects trash placed at the curb for the
residents of the City of Decatur once a week. The fee for trash
collection and the use of the leaf collection, heavy trash collection,
and the use of the compost site is $15.50 per month. If you need an additional trash cart it is $2.00 additional per month.
Heavy Trash Collection
Heavy trash collection is the first FULL week of April and the first FULL week of September. Items not collected are home improvement materials, carpeting, appliances with Freon, and electronics. Please contact the Street Department with
questions regarding collection.
Yard Waste Collection
The
Decatur Street Department will collect yard waste on the same day as
trash collection. Items should be placed at the curb in a bag or container, and cannot weigh more than 30 pounds. This collection runs from early April until leaf collection starts in October. Acceptable yard waste items include: grass clippings, flower
clippings, weeds, and shrub clippings. The City's compost site is located behind the Riverside Center, which is
open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for drop off of unwanted yard waste.
Curbside Recycling
Curbside recycling for residences in the city pickup will be every other week, on the same day as your regular trash pickup. Recycling will not be collected from apartments or businesses.
